My Happy Mind
Overview of myHappymind
Grounded in positive psychology and neuroscience, myHappymind is a whole school approach that aims to develop resilient, confident, independent children and enables them to understand how to keep mentally healthy. We implement myHappymind right across school and are dedicated to building a whole school approach to positive mental wellbeing.
myHappymind helps children understand how their brains work and creates a culture that helps to build children's resilience, confidence, and self-esteem. myHappymind also teaches the children how to self-regulate and manage their emotions in stressful times, allowing them to be their very best selves!
It helps children to:
- Feel happier
- Know what to do when they feel worried or stressed
- Improve their focus and learn more
- Achieve more of the goals that they set for themselves
- Develop better relationships with friends and families
- Feel great about who they are and have positive self esteem
My Happy Mind: Intent, Implementation and Impact Policy
1. Intent
At My Happy Mind, our aim is to help every child develop lifelong skills for positive mental health, resilience, and wellbeing. We are committed to:
- Embedding a culture of wellbeing that supports children to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
- Equipping children with practical tools to manage emotions, build confidence, and maintain healthy relationships.
- Normalising conversations around mental health, ensuring all pupils understand that wellbeing is as important as physical health.
- Promoting self-awareness, empathy, and growth mindset as foundations for success both in and outside of school.
2. Implementation
We achieve our intent by:
- Delivering the My Happy Mind programme consistently across all year groups, through structured weekly sessions.
- Using a spiral curriculum approach, where key themes (such as “Celebrate”, “Appreciate”, “Relate”, “Engage” and “Dream”) are revisited and deepened over time.
- Training staff to model and reinforce strategies in everyday interactions, embedding wellbeing principles into school culture.
- Encouraging parental involvement through resources, workshops, and home activities that extend learning beyond the classroom.
- Creating safe, supportive spaces where children feel confident to share feelings and seek help when needed.
- Monitoring delivery to ensure fidelity to the programme while allowing flexibility to meet the needs of individual cohorts.
3. Impact
We measure success and impact through:
- Improved pupil self-regulation, resilience, and ability to cope with challenges.
- Increased levels of happiness, confidence, and positive relationships within the school community.
- Evidence from pupil voice, parent feedback, and teacher observations showing greater awareness and use of wellbeing strategies.
- Improved attendance, engagement in learning, and overall readiness to learn.
- Contribution to whole-school culture where wellbeing is prioritised alongside academic achievement.
- Long-term positive outcomes, including better mental health literacy and reduced stigma around mental health.
