Science Day

Spring Term 2023

We celebrated World Scientist Day!  We came to school dressed as a scientist and we had so much fun learning about different scientists. We explored the works of Archimedes by doing an experiment about floating and sinking. We looked at the germ theory by Joseph Lister who created antiseptic medicine. We did this by using glitter in a bag and when we put it on our hands and it stuck, we then shook hands with someone else to show how germs spread. Lastly, we looked at the life changing work of Marie Curie. We designed posters in our literacy lessons about our favourite scientist. We had such a great day!

Eco Team go to Morrisons

Spring Term 2023

The Eco Team visited Morrisons Whitefield for a Foodmaker and Shopkeeper Tour. On their tour they visited the fishmongers, the deli, the bakery, the butchers and the world food aisle. The children enjoyed learning about the different types of fish which are gutted and sliced to be put on display daily  for customers to purchase. They tried some tasters of cheese and bread and even filled their own jam donuts to keep - they were yummy! Towards the end of the trip, the children chose 2 items from the world food aisle and discussed where these items originated from. Then, they scanned these on a till and completed a transaction in  order to receive the full worker's experience. Once back at school, the children have shared what they have learnt with their peers about where food comes from and how it gets into our stores.

KS1 Alien Day

Spring Term 2023

Years 1 and 2 came to school dressed in space themed clothing. This was to celebrate the end of our learning on Mae Jemison. The day consisted of learning about the solar system, writing descriptive sentences about aliens and an exciting experiment making Moon rocks.

We had a lot of fun enjoying reading and sharing our favourite tales and being greeted by some of our favourite characters!

EYFS Woodland Walk

Autumn Term 2022

Nursery and Reception visited a local woodland in autumn to explore the seasonal changes in the environment. We found lots of fallen leaves in lovely autumn colours like red, brown and yellow and lots of seeds on the trees. As we walked through the wood we could hear the birds singing and we even saw a squirrel! We hope to go back to the woods in spring to see the changes that spring brings.

Year 5/6 Fire Station Trip

On our day at the fire station, we looked at the causes of fire and the importance of  unplugging electrical items when not in use. We enjoyed learning about the role of a fire fighter and was given the opportunity to dress in their uniform along with listening to some 999 calls. Once back in class we wrote letters to the fire station and made posters all about fire safety.

Fairytales Day in Reception

Spring Term 2023

To finish our half term of reading and writing abut fairytales we celebrated by dressing as our favourite fairytale characters. We came to school in some fantastic outfits and really enjoyed sharing our favourite characters with our friends. We went to different classrooms to read a fairytale with our teachers who were dressed up too! We did some brilliant writing about The Frog Prince and we also did some super fun Maths, where we had to ring a fairytale character and practice our number formation. We made some beautiful fairytale crafts, went on a treasure hunt for characters and made some yummy biscuits to have at our fairytale picnic! A fabulous day!

EYFS Welly Walk

Autumn Term 2022

We donned our wellies and went to our school field for a walk in the autumn sunshine. We found fallen leaves and lots of sticks. We enjoyed playing games such as 'What's the time Mr Wolf' and raced down the steep slope. After a lovely time we returned to school for a drink and a snack.

Outdoor Learning

Autumn Term 2023

At Elton we love to take our learning outdoors and run dedicated outdoor explorer sessions for all children throughout school. Spending time outdoors has been proven to improve wellbeing, health and attitude towards learning as a whole. In these sessions we develop team skills, build resilience and try new things all while learning about the outdoor environment and developing an appreciation of nature. The sessions are run by trained Forest School L3 leaders who use their knowledge and enthusiasm for the great outdoors to inspire a new generation of outdoor explorers and nature lovers!
